Pre-Op Instructions For GI & Endoscopy Procedures
The following procedures help to keep you safe and healthy during and after your procedure. Please follow the SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS given by your doctor. If you have questions, contact our office.
FASTING & DRINKING: FOLLOW THE PRECISE INSTRUCTIONS IN PREPARATION FOR SURGERY FOR FASTING OR DRINKING BEFORE AND ON THE DAY OF YOUR PROCEDURE.
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OF ALL HEALTH CONDITIONS, PRESCRIBED AND OVER-THE-COUNTER MEDICATIONS you take. If you normally take heart or blood pressure medications, advise your doctor and only take small sips of water on the day of your procedure to ingest these.
DO NOT TAKE DIURETICS that create a need for you to go to frequently go to the bathroom.
ATTENTION DIABETICS: REMEMBER NO FOOD, NO DIABETIC PILL BEFORE PROCEDURE. Advise your doctor of your condition. If you are insulin dependent, special instructions will be provided to you.
ALL PATIENTS MUST ARRANGE FOR TRANSPORTATION HOME AFTER PROCEDURES AND SOMEONE TO STAY WITH YOU FOR 24 HOURS FOLLOWING PROCEDURES. It is ILLEGAL for you to drive after sedation. Procedures may not be performed if a responsible adult is not present to drive you home in avoidance of complications or legal issues.
WEAR LOOSE, COMFORTABLE CLOTHING that will be easy for you to put on in a sedated state.
PLEASE DO NOT WEAR COSMETICS including lotions of any kind, fragrance, eye make-up, hair sprays etc. You may shower, shampoo your hair and brush your teeth.
REMOVE ALL JEWELRY, BODY PIERCINGS OR VALUABLES prior to your arrival to the 7 Hill Gastroenterology and Central Florida Endoscopic Surgical facility. Leave all valuables at home.
CONTACT LENS WEARERS, Please bring your solutions, storage case and glasses with you as you may be asked to remove lenses prior to procedure.
BRING ANY DOCUMENTS you may have received from our office, including your Informed Consent, insurance card and a photo ID.
PLEASE ARRIVE 1 HOUR PRIOR TO YOUR SCHEDULED PROCEDURE TIME OR AT THE TIME YOUR DOCTOR HAS GIVEN YOU FOR ARRIVAL. This time allows for your preparation for the procedure and last minute schedule changes which may occur. Your time is valuable, and the staff at 7 Hill will try their best to keep schedule, but wait times necessarily vary and may be inconsistent due to time required for each individual’s procedure. If we need to take more time with our patients, we do so out of necessity for each person’s best interest.
